Panthers sweep Whitewater, while McIntosh tops TigersMon, 03/13/2006 - 4:48pm

Whitewater’s varsity girls and boys soccer teams hosted Starr’s Mill on Friday night. The games were battles between teams that were ranked in the top 10 of their respective classifications and both Starr’s Mill teams won.
The Lady Panthers fell behind the Lady Wildcats after Bailey Powell scored just under 18 minutes in to the first half. Starr’s Mill’s Gina Goforth struck back 10 minutes later with a goal of her own and the two teams entered the half deadlocked at one. The Lady Panthers would get one more goal in the game and play super defense to secure the 2-1 win. The Starr’s Mill boys had their second conseuctive Friday against a formidable AAAA team and once again they were 1-0 winners. The scorer for Starr’s Mill was Katie Jacobsen off of an assist from Stefani Adams. Starr’s Mill’s girls will play at Mundy’s Mill at 5 p.m. on Thursday, while the boys host Mundy’s Mill at 6 p.m. The girls will then take on their rivals the McIntosh Lady Chiefs on Friday at McIntosh at 6 p.m. Whitewater played at Northgate yesterday afer the paper went to press and will host Woodward Academy at 6 and 8 p.m. on Friday. The Lady Chiefs played at Fayette County on Friday night and won 6-0. The boys also played Fayette County on Friday. They won 3-0 and got goals from Bilal Duckett, Derek Farnsworth and Black. The Lady Chiefs will host Starr’s Mill at 6 p.m. on Friday and the boys will host Lassiter at 8 p.m. Fayette County played Salem last night at Rockdale County High School and will play at Newnan at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. on Friday. login to post comments |
