On March 18 and 19, the Fayette County Classic cycling race, formerly the Brooks Omnium, will provide Fayette County with its first taste of excitement in revving up for April’s Ford Tour de Georgia stage in downtown Fayetteville. The event has also teamed up with the Peachtree City Tourism Association and Tennis Center on Saturday night to offer an evening of fun and excitement for racers and fans alike.

The Fayette County Classic will be the first opportunity for fans to witness bicycle racing on the local level before the Ford Tour de Georgia hits Fayette County. The race, sponsored by Bicycles Unlimited, will kick off on Saturday, March 18. At 9 a.m., the racers will be lining Peachtree Parkway for a time trial that’s sure to excite. In the afternoon, it will be off to Brooks Elementary School to kick off the road race. Racers will then be looking forward to a blistering criterium in downtown Fayetteville on Sunday. But the fun doesn’t stop at the road race Saturday afternoon—it’s off to the Peachtree City Tennis Center.

At 7 p.m., the Tennis Center’s doors will open to racers, families and fans for a night of fun and relaxation. Right On Thyme, the Center’s on-site restaurant, will be hosting a buffet dinner. Cyclists and fans will also enjoy a live band and the chance to get on the tennis courts for games and follies with pros from the Tennis Center. Tickets will be available at the door for $5 for racers and their families and $10 for anyone interested in coming out to support a great sport and gear up for the Ford Tour de Georgia.

The Fayette County Classic is always looking for anyone interested in racing, volunteering or just coming out to the race. For more information, call Bicycles Unlimited at (770) 487-9252 or visit www.bicyclesunl.com.
