What did people do before the standard “dinner and a movie” night out was a possibility? Why, they went to dinner and a stage show, of course! Next weekend, Fayette-Coweta Family Theatre, Inc. will bring back the classic concept when they perform Ernest Thompson’s timeless comedy, “On Golden Pond.” FCFT will present their Senior Dinner Theatre Ensemble in the award winning play on March 16, 17, 18 and 19. In “On Golden Pond,” retired New England professor and lovable grouch, Norman Thayer, Jr., and his spirited wife, Ethel, decide to spend one final summer at their family's lakeside cottage in Maine. They are soon interrupted by the arrival of their daughter Chelsea, who, en route to a European vacation, leaves behind her fiancé’s young son. Colliding generations soon forge common ground. “On Golden Pond” is a heartwarming and hilarious celebration of the everyday struggles and ultimate triumphs of life, love and family. Touching, often funny and always truthful, this productions features six seasoned performers including FCFT’s Mike Hubbard as Norman Thayer, Jr., Kristi Rapson as his wife Ethel, Alicia Dowling Tucker as Chelsea, Brian Walsh as Billy Ray, Jr., Jay Rieger as Charlie, and Phillip Fevella as Bill Ray. Audiences who are accustomed to movie theaters rather than live performances may recall the 1981 version of Thompson’s work, of the same name, on the silver screen. The film, which was nominated for 10 academy awards, starred Katharine Hepburn, Henry Fonda and Jane Fonda. Fayette-Coweta Family Theatre’s two act performance will be accompanied by a full catered buffet before each show. The buffet will include a tossed salad, rolls, pit roasted chicken, homemade macaroni and cheese, fresh buttered corn, peach or blackberry cobbler, and a choice of iced tea or lemonade. Performances are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, March 16 and 17, 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 18 and finally at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 19. The catered buffet will be served first with the production beginning approximately one hour after dinner commences. “On Golden Pond” will be performed at the Fayette Family YMCA Lodge House at 215 Huiet Drive in Fayetteville. Tickets are $28 for adults and $26 for children under 13 years and seniors 65 and over. Full tables that seat eight are available for $200 each. Reservations are required and seating is very limited, so call early to secure your table. For reservations or more information call 770-251-7611 or visit the Web site, www.fcft.net/GoldenPond. “On Golden Pond” is recommended for audiences of at least eight years or older and contains mature issues and situations, so leave the kiddies at home and catch dinner and a movie the old fashioned way.
