Panthers run well at Wheeler Relays, host big meet on Saturday

The Starr’s Mill track team traveled to Cobb County to compete in the Wheeler Relays this past weekend. Several outstanding performances were turned in by the group.

The girls placed third overall out of 21 Teams.

• Long jump, Crystal Chastain, 1st, 17’07.5” (new school record)

• 4x1,600 meter relay, Kristin Horton, Mary Kate Hyer, Kelly McNair and Ginny Balkcom, 2nd, 23:23.09 (new school record)

• Shot Put, Ashley Zilles, 3rd, 36’4.5’

• Pole Vault, Lauren Marchman, 3rd, 9’

• 4x800 meter relay, Horton, Ginny Hyer, Mary Kate Hyer, Balkcom, 3rd, 10:28.46

• DM Relay team, Horton, Ginny Hyer, Mary Kate Hyer, Balkcom, 4th, 13:49.69

The Boys placed eighth overall out of 21 teams.

• Shot Put, Greg Davis, 2nd, 46'00

• Discus, Greg Davis, 2nd, 139'06"

• Discus, Andrew Thompson, 7th, 119'04"

• 4x1600 relay, Michael Kadow, Matthew Beeson, Garrett Smith, and Ryan Darr, 7th, 20:44.54

• 4x100 relay, Antonio Brown, Brandon Lewis, Chad Gloer, and Chandler Smith, 44.30

The Panther Relays will take place at the Starr's Mill stadium on Saturday, beginning at 8 a.m. and promises to be an exciting event. Teams from the local area attending include: Starr's Mill, McIntosh, Fayette County, East Coweta, Landmark Christian, Our Lady of Mercy, Newnan, Sandy Creek and Whitewater. Twenty seven schools will be participating in the event which will last until 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
