Fayetteville residents Tia Bittner and Jordan Erwin, Way resident Cason Rainwater, Peachtree City resident Kaylee Lewis, Morrow resident Ashley Jones, Brooks resident Shaun Gillen and Newnan resident Jennifer Cochran are the newest recipients of Chick-fil-A’s Leadership Scholarships, a national program that has awarded nearly $20 million in scholarship money since 1973 to Chick-fil-A team members who are exemplary students, employees and community members. Bittner, Lewis, Jones and Rainwater bring the scholarship total to 125 at the Chick-fil-A restaurant at the Fayetteville Dwarf House, which is operated by Doug Mickey. Bittner is using the $1,000 scholarship to study theatre education at Columbus State University. Lewis is studying business at Gainesville College. Jones is studying creative music technology at Lagrange College. Rainwater is using the $1,000 scholarship to study business management at the University of West Georgia. Gillen and Erwin are the 11th and 12th scholarship employees at the free-standing Chick-fil-A restaurant at Fayetteville Towne Center, which is operated by Doug Barnett. Gillen is using the $1,000 scholarship to study business at Georgia State University. Erwin is studying business at Gordon College. Cochran is the 66th scholarship employee at the Chick-fil-A restaurant at the Newnan Dwarf House, which is operated by Allen Queen. Cochran is attending Georgia State University studying journalism. Chick-fil-A continues to expand its Leadership Scholarship program and has committed to award $1.2 million this year. To date, 4,908 Chick-fil-A restaurant team members in Georgia have earned $4,908,000 in Chick-fil-A Leadership Scholarships. What began in 1955 with a small collection jar in the original Dwarf Grill restaurant in Atlanta for an employee struggling to raise money for college has grown into a 32-year-old scholarship program that each year awards more than $1 million to team members across the country. Truett Cathy, founder of the chain, formalized the scholarship program in 1973, seven years after the first Chick-fil-A restaurant opened at Greenbriar Mall in Atlanta. login to post comments |
