Shelton joins PTC

Bill Shelton

The Rev’d Deacon Bill Shelton, Peachtree City, is the newest Law Enforcement Chaplain for the Peachtree City Police Department.

Shelton, a career, firefighter, EMT, and paramedic, was ordained in 2002 and has been serving as a member of the ministerial staff at Christ the King Church, Sharpsburg. A Georgia native, Shelton graduated from Gordon High School, the Dekalb Technical Institute, and received extensive training at the Georgia Fire Academy. He holds numerous emergency services certifications. He has also studied at St. Michael’s Seminary, where he concentrated on courses in ministry, government, liturgics, and sacramental theology. He is scheduled to attend the Chaplain Certification Course offered by the Georgia Association of Law Enforcement Chaplain and will receive additional training through the International Conference of Police Chaplains.

Chaplain Shelton has served in several emergency services departments in his career and has held positions of lieutenant, captain, and Director of Operations. He currently serves with the Douglas County Fire Department.

Prior to his ordination, Shelton served in a number of capacities at Atlanta’s Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, including: Group Facilitator for the Adult Drug and Alcohol Group, as a servant leader to over 100 families, as a deacon, and was involved in assisting in several major conferences. Later, he assisted in the founding of Bethel Family Church in Decatur, and then completed Stephen’s Ministry training at Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church. He also served as a Lay Eucharistic Minister and as a Licensed Liturgical Minister in the Charismatic Episcopal Church. Shelton received an Honorable Discharge from the U. S. Navy and he and his wife, Donna, have two adult children.

Shelton joins with three other local clergy who volunteer as chaplains including: Chaplain John Weber; Christ our Shepherd Lutheran Church, Peachtree City; Chaplain Paul Massey, Church of the Holy Cross, Fayetteville; and Chaplain David Epps, Christ the King Charismatic Episcopal Church, Sharpsburg.
