The Whitewater girls played Chapel Hill last Tuesday and won 4-2. Goals were scored by freshman Jade Ah-low (2), Kayla Emerson, and Claire Huff. The Lady Wildcats fell behind 2-0 in the first five minutes of the game due to some unorganization in the back. According to coach Heather Allen, the girls finally settled down, got it together and started coming back. “Our defense then stepped it up a notch and did not let any more goals in,” said Allen. Great defense was played by Katie Schwartz, Allison Fannin, Jordan Brown, and Caitlin Beale. Lacey McGowan, a freshman midfielder, also had a terrific game.

Whitewater’s girls are now ranked third in the state in AAAA. They beat Creekside 15-0 on Monday with three goals each from Emerson and Feagan Hunt.

The Whitewater boys and girls soccer teams faced Sandy Creek last night after the paper went to press and will host Starr’s Mill at 6 and 8 p.m. on Friday.

Newnan took a 2-0 lead deep into the first half until Emily Stevens scored off a crossing pass from Gina Goforth with eight minutes remaining in the half. Three minutes later, Goforth scored the equalizer on a breakaway lead pass from Aubry Ireland. Four minutes into the second half, Laura McCalla scored after a nifty setup pass from captain Katie Jacobsen. The insurance goal for the Lady Panthers came three minutes later as Goforth scored her second goal of the night, also assisted by a creative play from Jacobsen.
