The Tyrone Recreation Department will offer rhythmic gymnastics and those interested in learning about the sport are invited to attend a free open house on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 6 p.m.

Rhythmic gymnastics is the performance of dance and gymnastic movements to music, while using various props such as rope, hoops, balls, clubs or a ribbon. Rhythmic gymnastics became an Olympic sport in 1984 and many describe it to be a combination of gymnastics and ballet.

The class will be taught by Marina Romanova. Born and trained in Moscow, Romanova achieved individual and team championships at the local, regional and national levels. Her students have competed in International Championships in Germany, Russia and Portugal among many others.

Classes will begin on Wednesday, Nov.9 at the Roger Spencer Community Center in Tyrone. Ages 4-6 will take the class from 5-6 p.m., while ages 7 and up will attend the class from 6-7 p.m. The fee is $50 a month.
