Fayette County fire officials are investigating a fire Wednesday afternoon that caused significant damage to a home on the county's north side.

The first crew arrived at 145 Princeton Chase six minutes after the call was placed to the county's 911 center, according to Capt. Pete Nelms of the Fayette County Department of Fire and Emergency Services.

The fire was first spotted by a neighbor who reported seeing smoke coming from the rear of the home. The blaze ate into the second floor of the home significantly, but no one was apparently home at the time.

The City of Fayetteville Fire Department responded to assist the county on the scene, and a class of county fire recruits also helped out in addition to the regular compliment of career county firemen, Nelms said.
