The city of Newnan has announced Cynthia Gill-Wall of Newnan as the new director for the Keep Newnan Beautiful Commission, an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful. The Commission completed its certification program on February 28 with a ceremony at the City Council meeting.

The goal of the new commission is to educate, motivate and empower the individuals of Newnan, Georgia to take greater responsibility for improving our local community through litter prevention, beautification and waste reduction.

Keep America Beautiful, Inc., established in 1953, is the nationís largest volunteer-based community action and education organization. This national nonprofit forms public-private partnerships and programs that engage individuals to take greater responsibility for improving their community environments.

Newnan will be hosting “The Great American Cleanup” April 29 as the final finale to Georgia Municipal Associations “Georgia Cities Week.” President George W. Bush will be serving as Honorary Chair of the Great American Cleanup this year. Nationwide activities will include beautifying parks and recreation areas, cleaning seashores and waterways, handling recycling collections, picking up litter, planting trees and flowers, and conducting educational programs and letter-free events.

Volunteers are currently being signed up to participate. Scout, church and civic groups are encouraged to attend. Groups will be assigned an area and the event will conclude with a cook out on Historic Court Square. Please contact Cynthia Gill-Wall at 678-855-5058 to register.
