Lewis L. Collins

The Rev. Lewis L. Collins, 89, Fayetteville, died Feb. 20, 2006. He was born Nov. 28, 1916 in Gate City, Ga., son of Lou and Lewis Collins Sr. He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Bertha Leona Collins, and a granddaughter, Christina O’Kelley. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in World War II in the South Pacific Islands, He was retired from the Federal Government in 1973. He was ordained as a Congregational Holiness minister and served in the Central Georgia Conference for over 50 years. Services were at the Fayetteville Church of God with the Rev. Jerry Young, the Rev. Bill Lewis, and the Rev. Stiles Cobb officiating. Interment was at Sherwood Memorial Park, Jonesboro. Survivors include sons, Keith Collins, Fayetteville, and Walter Collins, Griffin; a daughter, Jeanette and Bill Hargis, Jackson; grandchildren, Melanie O’Kelley, Crystal Collins, Rose Lewis, Jonathan Collins, and Diana and Mark Reed; great-grandchildren, Shawn Lewis and Hailey Lewis; and a sister, Glena Harper, Hapeville. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge.
