Scott Haskin of Newnan shrouds the cross in purple at Christ the King Charismatic Episcopal Church in Sharpsburg in preparation for Ash Wednesday, March 1, and the Christian season of Lent. Several churches in the area (see religion briefs) have scheduled services during the day and in the evening to mark the beginning of the season commemorating the 40 days Jesus fasted in the desert.
