Franklin Delane Tibbetts, Brooks community, died Feb. 11, 2010. He was preceded in death by his parents, Noah and Mamie Tibbetts of Dallas, his wife of 21 years, Harmel Vining Tibbetts, and a granddaughter, Tina Tibbetts. Following two years in the United States Army, he attended school at night to study civil engineering and earned an associate degree from Southern Technical Institute. He worked as a draftsman in the mapping and planning department of the Georgia Department of transportation, creating detailed plans for future transportation routes. He retired in 1991 with more than 33 years of service. He volunteered as a member of Hapeville Jaycees, coached little league baseball and was an active member of the Brooks United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Davidson Masonic Lodge #334 and the Fayette Shrine Club. Services were at the Brooks United Methodist Church with interment at the Brooks Memorial Cemetery. Survivors include his children, Richard and Giggie Tibbetts, Steve and Denese Tibbetts, Cathy and John Pierce, Sherry Tibbetts Byars, George and Linda Swain, and Tonia Buford; stepdaughters, Koneta Perkins, Wanda and Rhamy Nipper, and Kay and Tony Shoaf; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be given to the Shriners Hospitals for Children. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge. login to post comments |
