Fayette Youth takes top award for essay contest

Chase Davenport

Chase Davenport, son of Paul Davenport of Fayetteville, was recently named as the 2005 Winner of the local DAR Essay Contest. The topic for the 5th grade was "Benjamin Franklin, More Than a Revolutionary."

Chase is a student at Cleveland Elementary School in Fayetteville. Presenting Chase with his award is Rachel Colbert of Fayetteville, American History Chairman of the Augustin Clayton DAR Chapter.

One of the goals of the DAR is to promote education and membership. It is open to any woman over the age of 18 who can trace lineal descent from a patriot or from someone who provided aid to the patriots.
