Coweta County commissioners at the Dec. 15 meeting will conduct two public hearings on proposed amendments to current land uses. One of those would establish a Neighborhood Agribusiness provision to the county zoning ordinance.

Coweta County Planning Department is recommending approval of the ordinance amendment that would create a Neighborhood Agribusiness zoning in the Rural Conservation zoning district.

Scott Tyson in July made the request to be allowed to start a sustainable organic farm, citing the potential for his 10-acre Sharpsburg property, and that of others, to grow healthier food and raise healthier animals that will provide on-farm direct sales, educational experiences, entertainment and hospitality services to the public.

Also at the Dec. 15 meeting, commissioners will conduct a public hearing on a request to consider an ordinance amendment that would provide for indoor and outdoor shooting ranges as conditional uses in some industrial areas.

The county Planning Department is recommending approval of the measure.

Commissioners earlier this year heard a request to consider the ordinance amendment by Sharpsburg residents Harlan Hammack and Joe Mezzatesta, who want to construct and operate a 15-20 lane indoor public shooting range designed specifically for small arms such as handguns, shotguns and small caliber rifles.

And at the same meeting gun store owner Rusty Morris said he was interested in establishing a 10-lane indoor shooting range with a retail component.
