Cancer struck just at the time Sara Keene was entering that wonderful stage in life: young, beautiful, smart, creative, and so full of potential. Leukemia was not part of the plan for a 21-year-old Georgia Tech honors student. Those who knew and loved Sara experienced such joy as she danced through life and now hope to honor her memory by giving back to the community.

Sara spent much of her life dancing and each year looked forward to performances of the Nutcracker Ballet. She was cast in many roles including the mischievous Fritz, Snow Queen, and Sugar Plum Fairy. Sara signed and dated many of her pink satin pointe shoes with significant roles and now these shoes have been transformed into works of art to benefit the American Cancer Society and a scholarship fund for the Peachtree City Civic Ballet Company. These special shoes will only be available for sale at the Peachtree City Civic Ballet Company Nutcracker performances on Dec 12 and 13 at Our Lady of Mercy High School. Also in honor of Sara’s memory is a Nutcracker Sweet Christmas Tree displayed at Salon 54 in Peachtree City. Donations of $5 are being accepted and one lucky person’s name will be drawn on Dec 19th to become the owner of this exquisite tree. According to Ballet Director Kathleen Senger, Sara believed that by dancing in the Nutcracker she was giving a special holiday treat to the entire community. We hope to carry on that dream to benefit the American Cancer Society. Tickets for the Nutcracker are just $10 each and available at Peachtree City School of Dance, (770) 632-1544 or at the theater.
