Coweta County commissioners Dec. 1 approved three changes orders and rejected six others relating to the ongoing rehabilitation work at the historic courthouse in downtown Newnan.

Commissioners on the recommendation of county administrator Theron Gay approved the addition of two floor drains in the basement bathrooms, work on wall mounted exist signs and credit for the removal of a rainfall collection and storage system. The floor drain change order added $678 dollars to the project while the exit sign change order added $1,628. The credit on the rainfall collection and storage system totals $16,060.

Commissioners Dec. 1 also rejected six additional change orders totaling $105,221. Gay recommended some of the rejected change orders be re-work with county staff and and architect and contractor to arrive at a more appropriate solution for the issues while others were recommended for rejection due to cost considerations.

Work on the $7.5 million Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax-funded (SPLOST) project is expected to be completed sometime next summer.
