Today I met a small business owner in Fayetteville, Mr. Couey. Mr. Couey owns Dazzle’s skating rink and he offered to donate some of the proceeds from Saturday and Sunday to Promise Place, a shelter for women [who have experienced] domestic violence. I tagged along with my mom who is on the board.

I got a chance to talk to Mr. Couey and I heard how he was struggling with the heavy load of taxes on his own business, but yet here he was reaching out to help women of domestic violence who desperately need it. Mr. Couey is a small business owner who like the rest of the county struggles to be successful and yet he gave.

This is the heartbeat of Fayette County, the heartbeat of my city and what ultimately brought me to Fayetteville 11 years ago, the generosity of the people to help others less fortunate and to care for their neighbors.

Mr. Couey, I applaud your work and your generosity to Promise Place. They are blessed to have you and I thank you and hope you receive everything back and more.

For all of you who have children in Fayette County, come by and visit Dazzle’s skate rink in Fayetteville. It is a great place to have some safe fun.
