A Fayetteville man has been appointed acting director of the Georgia Emergency Management Agency.

Charley English was most recently the assistant director of the Georgia Office of Homeland Security, which is part of GEMA. He previously served as GEMA’s director of operations for seven years.

English replaces Mike Sherberger, who retired earlier this month. English was appointed by Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue.

English received the leadership award of the State Charitable Contributions Program and was chairman of the Boy Scouts Law Enforcement Explorer group of the Atlanta Area Council.

English is a member of First Baptist Church in Fayetteville; he and his wife Ronda have two daughters and one son.
