Whitewater Middle named School of Excellence

Whitewater Middle School has been named a 2009 Georgia School of Excellence in student achievement by state Superintendent of Schools Kathy Cox. Whitewater was one of 12 schools in the state that placed in the top 10 percent as measured by assessments in reading and math.

A total of 27 schools were named in the announcement Nov. 6, including those showing the greatest improvement and those showing the highest achievement across the state.

“These schools are getting great results from all students in many different areas,” Cox said. “The teachers, students and administrators at these schools truly represent excellence. Congratulations to our 2009 Georgia Schools of Excellence.”

The Georgia Schools of Excellence are honored in two categories.

Qualifying schools are chosen from each Congressional District.

Along with Whitewater Middle, the other Top 10 percent schools were Appling County Primary, Lincoln Elementary in Dougherty County, Honey Creek Elementary in Rockdale County, West Manor Elementary in Atlanta, Pope High in Cobb County, Chattahoochee High in Fulton County, Daves Creek Elementary in Forsyth County, Bonaire Elementary in Houston County, Riverwatch Middle in Forsyth County, Oconee County Elementary, Ford Elementary in Cobb County and Savannah Arts Academy in Savannah-Chatham County.
