A massive law enforcement effort to target impaired drivers netted a total of 48 different charges being filed against motorists and others during several roadblocks in Peachtree City Friday night. Of those charges, police found three people with active warrants against them, one person charged with DUI (drugs), six in possession of marijuana, three with open containers of alcohol and two underage persons in possession of alcohol. Police also found one convicted felon with a firearm, six tag violations and 12 license violations. The roadblocks were conducted at eight different locations including Ga. Highway 74 and Georgian Park, Hwy. 74 and Westpark Drive and Ga. Highway 54 and Lake Peachtree. These locations were chosen due to their historically large number of automobile crashes and DUI arrests. Participating in the roadblock were the Peachtree City Police Department, the Georgia State Patrol, Fayetteville Police Department, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office, the Georgia Department of Health (Injury Prevention Division), and Mother’s Against Drunk Driving. Prior to the road safety checks, over 1,000 goodie bags were handed out to children who were properly restrained in vehicles as they were leaving all elementary schools in Peachtree City, as well as Cleveland Elementary, Sara Harp Minter Elementary, and Peeples Elementary schools within Fayette County. During the road safety checks, goodie bags were handed out to children and safety pamphlets were distributed to drivers. login to post comments |
