Gregory Rusch is a leader who gets the job done. A resident of Palmetto over three years, he has immersed himself in the community. He is an active member of the Palmetto Community Association, responsible for raising money for beautification and sponsoring of events. Mr. Rusch has always been a pioneer when it comes to revitalization. He opened his retail store "Rusch Home "in College Park before it was trendy to do so. He was the first to set high standards for renovation and quality design. His career as an Interior Designer has allowed him to put his talents to work, restoring historical homes like the one in which he currently resides. It is now a bed and breakfast, promoting tourism in Palmetto. Mr. Rusch discovered Palmetto, fell in love with a house, and decided to become a resident. He saw the potential of this small town. While meeting and greeting the neighborhood, several senior citizens expressed their concerns. Crime was mentioned, and the general feeling that "Palmetto has gone downhill." Sadly, a few mentioned that they wanted to leave the homes they had been in for 30-50 years. He encouraged them not to give up hope for the future. His platform is as follows: To attract new business to Palmetto that will enhance the town’s tax base, thus diminishing the burden on tax payers. Concern about the lack of productive activities for the youth of Palmetto. He would like to see more organized activities aimed at creating a positive environment for teens. This can only happen with cooperation of the parents, the city, the churches and adult volunteers. He would actively encourage the participation of senior citizens as mentors for teens. He wants to bring an overall cultural awareness to Palmetto. Tour De 29, a festival of cities along the corridor of Hwy. 29 was conceptualized and named by him. Palmetto’s free Jazz concert on October 22 is one of the many events planned. The South Fulton Arts Council sponsored and funded the various events. These are just a few of his many ideas to enhance the reputation of Palmetto as a wonderful place to live and work. He can certainly do more for the city as a Council member utilizing all of the resources the city and county have for improving life in Palmetto. His greatest desire is to promote Palmetto pride. login to post comments |
