Line Creek Civitan Club to host The Great Chili Challenge in Peachtree City

The Line Creek Civitan Club will host the Great Chili Challenge at Shakerag Knoll in Peachtree City from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 31. Shakerag Knoll is located at 191 McIntosh Trail, Peachtree City, Georgia (between Peachtree Parkway and Highway 74).

“This will be a great day of fun, fellowship and great chili,” said Nell Howell, the president of the Line Creek Civitan Club.

The festivities will include radio personalities Scott, Charlie and Uncle Rich; special music by The Remedy Band and a dance performance by Drake School of Dance. Kids come and enter the “Best Halloween Costume” judging; also face painting and a petting zoo.

This will be a "chili culinary extravaganza" featuring competition in several different categories and will include contestants from both professional and novice community businesses, civic clubs and organizations, restaurants, and various other groups and individual participants.

The contestant entry fees for individual contestants and non-profit Organizations is $20. Commercial or businesses including restaurants must register as a sponsor and pay a fee of $250.

According to the event coordinators “all proceeds from this event will support local community charities and Civitan projects that work to improve the lives of children and adults with developmental disabilities and the Civitan International Research Center which brings together top scientific minds, and the latest technology, to create innovative therapies and treatments for people with developmental disabilities”.

Civitan is an international association of local community service clubs; each one meeting specific needs in their communities. Started in Birmingham, AL in 1917, Civitan International has become one of the world’s leading volunteer service organization, with more than 40,000 Men, women and teenagers in 24 nations working together in local clubs to help others.

The contestants need your votes. There will be awards for first and second place overall as well as:

• People’s Choice for all contestants. The best chili voted best by all around by the attending public. This is the only award voted on by the attending public.

• Judge’s Choice for individual or Non-Profit organization contestants. Voted best all around by official judges.

• Judge’s Choice for business and commercial contestants. Voted best all around by official judges.

• Best Decorated Booth for all contestants. Determined by official judges and includes theme, name of chili, creativity and attire.

• Best Youth Category. Voted best by the official judges.

Come and taste all the chili - Admission for adults is $5; Ages 6-17 $2; children under 6 with an adult are free.
