Two other streets switched to 1-way traffic only

Senoia residents will be facing a few minor traffic changes in town in an effort to improve safety and traffic flow.

The City Council voted Monday night to erect a three-way stop sign at Andrews Parkway and Howard Road at the entrance to Winpak Films. The action is pending approval of City Attorney Drew Whalen on whether the city has enough right of way to enforce the stop signs.

Council also voted to make two city streets one-way only. Baggarly Way will become one-way from Johnson Street to Travis Street, as it is far too narrow to handle vehicles on both sides of the road along with increased pedestrian traffic in Senoia booming downtown district, noted Police Chief Jason Edens.

Also going to a one-way street is Amey Street, which was also changed to allow parking on one side only. Part of the problem is a safety issue with cut-through traffic coming from Southern Mills and the other is damage to part of the road that has made a portion of it unusable.

There are only four homes on Amey Street, and the matter came to light after a recent Wednesday when a trash truck refused to service the homes because of cars blocking the way on both sides of the street, officials said.

An Amey Street resident said that motorists use the street as a cut-through which endangers children who play in the area.
