The Fayette County Commission gave approval Oct. 14 for two intersection improvement projects funded by 1-cent sales tax dollars.

The Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) projects include realigning McBride Road at Antioch Road and realigning Kenwood Road at New Hope Road.

McBride and Kenwood enter their respective intersections at an angle. The realignment at each will produce a T-shaped intersection that will run perpendicular to the main road. The addition of turn lanes is also a part of each project.

Southeastern Site Development with a bid of $301,052 was awarded the contract for the McBride Road/Antioch Road intersection and turn lane work.

The $177,309 bid for the New Hope Road/Kenwood Road project went to B&J Paving.

Fayette County Public Works representative Phil Mallon said that right-of-way for the projects had already been acquired or was in process of being acquired.

Both projects are funded by the current SPLOST initiative.
