Help kids of deployed military this Christmas

To the wonderful citizens of Fayette County, I heard an old song on the radio the other day called “What a Difference a Day Makes.” It got me to thinking.

As you know, for the past eight years, Embracing Military Families has been making a difference in the days and lives of the children of deployed soldiers at Ft. Benning. Thanks to you, we have brightened their Christmases and their Easters. We’ve helped them get off on the right foot for their first day of school. We’ve gotten them through lonely days with the Deployment Club, and helped their financially strapped families through the Hand Me Up Room; and for the first time this year; the “Free Garage Sale” where the children were able to chose gently worn clothes, shoes and warm jackets.

Many of these families are facing their third and fourth deployments, and for many in the junior ranks, this creates a huge financial burden.

With your help, we have made an amazing difference in the days and months and years of these most deserving children and their brave parents.

But our mission continues, and once again I am asking for your help. The holidays are fast approaching, and another large unit is due to deploy out of Fort Benning this month.

When you add that to the units already deployed, some of the elementary schools on the post will have as many as 70 to 80 percent of the children with at least one parent deployed.

As Christmas approaches, it would mean the world to me, and to our brave littlest soldiers and their parents, if you would once again help me make a difference. Any donation would be greatly appreciated.

You can contact me at 770-487-0672, or my son, Kevin, at 404-358-0983. You can also mail or drop off your donation to 202 Panstone Drive, Peachtree City, Georgia 30269.

As I write this, I am once again reminded of that song I heard on the radio. The last line of the song is so fitting, and so simple. In the end, “the difference is you”.

Thank you and God bless.
