Peachtree City’s Falcon Field Airport has been designated for $1.85 million in federal funding to construct an apron for its new hangar area currently under construction.

The funding comes from federal money set aside to help develop selected general aviation airports in the state.

Though Falcon Field offers no commuter passenger service, it serves as a relief airport for private jet traffic headed to Hartsfield Jackson International Airport in Atlanta. Falcon Field also hosts a number of corporate and recreational aircraft.

The announcement of the award was made recently by U.S. Senators Johnny Isakson and Saxby Chambliss. Other airports receiving funding through the program include those in Canton, Atlanta, Hampton and Rome.

“As we focus on economic development and work to determine Georgia’s current and future transportation needs, it is very gratifying to have this level of federal support for airports across the state,” said Isakson.

“I’m pleased these cities will receive this federal funding,” said Chambliss. “These grants are critically important to our local communities and provide the opportunity for further economic growth in the area.”
