Fayette County NAACP sets dates for banquet, next meeting

The Freedom Fund Banquet Committee is planning its 12th Annual Freedom Fund Banquet, Nov. 7, 6 p.m. at the Wyndham Peachtree Conference Center.  This year’s banquet theme is “Celebrating and Building on 100 Years of Achievement.”  The Centennial Achievement Awards for Civil Rights will be presented to deserving recipients. The Fayette County Community is invited to attend, ticket price is $75; however, there is a discount for purchasing a table of 10 for $700. The keynote speaker, Janice L. Mathis, Esq. served as Southern Regional Counsel to the Rainbow PUSH Coalition; while serving, Attorney Mathis negotiated pacts with companies like Toyota, Nationwide, John Deere and General Motors.  She organized and led the fight in Atlanta to reauthorize the Voting Rights Act in 2005 and was instrumental in Greenville S.C.’s recognition of the Martin Luther King Holiday in 2003.  Janice and her sister Davida Mathis host Sisters in Law on WVEE, a legal advice program.  She is a founder of Dignity and Diversity, a coalition of women’s groups working to improve images and participation of Blacks in media. Attorney Mathis is currently Vice President of the Citizenship Education Fund, a charitable research and education organization based in Chicago. 

The next General Meeting of the Fayette County Branch will be held on Monday, Oct. 12, 7 p.m. in lieu of Oct. 10 due to the NAACP State Conference Convention, convening  October 8th and ending October 11th. The location is Flat Rock AME Church, 148 Old Chapel Lane, Fayetteville, GA 30215.

The Fayette County Branch was organized and chartered in February, 1997, to implement the NAACP mission by making a positive impact on the quality of life for the citizens of Fayette County.
