By Kelvin Joiner The City of Fayetteville provides its citizens up-to-date information with a portal to the information highway. Now more than ever, people are using the Internet to get news and general information, surpassing newspapers, television and radio. The City of Fayetteville’s leaders embraced this technology and have been providing its citizens information on the Internet since 1998. Over 10,000 monthly visitors visit the City’s web site regularly. The City designed “http://fayetteville-ga.gov“web site for its citizens who live on the web – searching for information about City related services, events and public meetings. Standards were set in place in the design of the web site to allow its citizens to locate the information quickly. Each web page is designed with similar formats which allow the citizens to flow though each page easily. One of the standards created early on were phone numbers on many of its pages to give citizens a contact phone number to call when they cannot find or would like additional information. Each City department is responsible for posting updates to the City’s web site, which cut the cost to the tax payers of having a web designer. Some of the most visited pages are “Latest Announcements” which host government news and information; another popular item on the web site is “Feed Back Form” which allows citizens to ask question or report a problem to the City. The request is usually read, assigned and replied to within 24 business hours. Other most popular visited pages on the web site are listed below: I Would Like To - Allows citizens a portal to apply for Building Permits, Business Licenses, jobs and other related items; fill out Feed Back requests, Open Records requests and Hotel Motel tax forms and pay on-line utility bills, occupational tax and traffic tickets. Jobs – A listing of current job listings and application forms. Public Meetings - List of meeting agendas and meeting minutes City Departments - A drill down list of each department and its contacts and functions. On-Line Services - Allows the citizens on-line access forms and on-line payment services New Residents – Gives citizens new to the area easy contact information for utilities, car tags, voter registration, local school list and other information that would help their transition to the area easier. Events – A calendar list of local Downtown Development Authority and Main Street events in the local area. The City of Fayetteville is very proud of its web site and will continue to expand the site with the needs of its citizens in mind, ensuring government transparency and will continue to provide its citizens information to make their lives a little easier.
