Oktoberfest Planned at Life Enrichment CenterTue, 09/29/2009 - 2:55pm
By: The Citizen
The public is invited to celebrate Oktoberfest Monday, October 26, 5-8 p.m. at Fayette Senior Services’ Life Enrichment Center, 4 Center Drive in Fayetteville. The event will feature authentic German food and beverages including bratwurst, sauerkraut, German potato salad, fresh baked breads, apple strudel, and Kuchen. Guests will also be entertained by an authentic German Polka band. Attendees will be given the opportunity to help "grow" the garden by purchasing memory bricks and other items that will be available during the event. Tickets are only $15 and may be purchased at Fayette Senior Services, 4 Center Drive, Fayetteville. This event will be the first fund raiser to benefit the future "Therapeutic Garden" to be built adjacent to the Life Enrichment Center. This project is a collaborative effort with the Fayette County Master Gardeners and Fayette Senior Services which will benefit members of the Center as well as the community. In addition to providing a tranquil garden park with a natural design, the garden will have fruits, vegetables and flowers that will be grown in ergonomic-designed raised beds so anyone can enjoy gardening, regardless of physical limitations. Fayette County Master Gardener, Susan Stewart, worked closely with Tim Martin of Andy’s Nursery. Andy’s Nursery provided an in-kind donation of the garden’s plan and rendering. The goal is to create a “green” garden using recyclable materials, cisterns, and other energy efficient mechanisms. The pathways will be mobility-friendly to accommodate walking devices, motorized scooters and wheelchairs. The design also includes a pergola with benches for visitors who may simply want to enjoy the park-like setting. Produce from the garden will be used in Fayette Senior Services Ultimate Café. Cash or in-kind donations can be made at the Oktoberfest event, by mail or online at www.FayetteSeniors.org (click “donate” link on left side of the homepage).
