Owen Henahan, 8, a cub scout with Pack 74 in Fayetteville, Ga. is working to support our troops both here and abroad during the annual Popcorn Fundraiser. This effort, called “Operation Popcorn,” has a goal to provide a little bit of the comfort of home to the men and women of our Armed Forces.

Owen has gone door to door, sent an e-mail to friends and relatives as well as partnering with Spectrum Eyecare, a local eye care practice.

“Being able to donate popcorn to our troops and support scouting at the same time is really cool,” said Owen.

There are two levels of support, Silver ($25 donation) and Gold ($40 donation). If you wish to support Owen and our troops you can mail a check payable to Pack 74 to 1309 Blue Sky Court, Peachtree City, GA 30269 or you can donate online at trails-end.com. Click on Military Donation, enter Scout ID: 2202604 and choose your level of support.

For those that wish to donate in person or purchase popcorn products for themselves, Pack 74 will have a stand set up at Wal-Mart in Peachtree City on Oct. 18 from 9 a.m.-6 p.m.

A third option is to stop by Spectrum Eyecare, 2791 Hwy 54 (1/8 mile past Wal-Mart and Home Depot. Popcorn products will be available for purchase at Spectrum Eyecare. Discounts are being offered on eye exams and glasses to anyone who makes a donation to the scouts at Spectrum Eyecare.

For example for each $50 donation or purchase of popcorn, you can receive $25 off an eye exam or $75 off complete pairs of eyeglasses. Visit www.SpecEye.com for directions and phone numbers.
