Several area churches are planning special “blessings” for animals within the next couple of weeks in honor of St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals.

The Episcopal Church of the Nativity will sponsor a blessing and Pet Fair at the Gazebo in downtown Fayetteville Saturday, Oct. 3 from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m to benefit the Fayette County Humane Society. The actual blessing will start at 2 p.m.

The Pet Fair will feature pony rides, a petting zoo, a clown with face painting and balloons, pet adoptions, police canines, music, and food from Chick-fil-A and Bruster’s. Prizes will be awarded for the pet with the best costume.

All species of pets are welcome on a short leash, carrying case or hand-held

Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Peachtree City will have its annual Blessing of the Animals Service Sunday, Oct. 4, at 2 p.m., in the church’s upper parking lot.

Pets of any size, shape, or type are welcome ... even a pet’s photo can be blessed if it is not possible for it to attend. All pets should be properly leashed or in carriers for their safety.

Tyrone’s Hopewell United Methodist Church will hold a Blessing of the Animals service at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10. Pets will be blessed by the Rev. Scott Pickering. Pets should be on leash or otherwise secured.

The church is at 351 Jenkins Rd., directly across from Sandy Creek High School. For more information contact Hopewell at 770-306-7537.
