Due to a computer error, the 147 homeowners who qualified for Peachtree City’s senior homestead exemption should expect a new tax bill in the mail.

The first bill those homeowners received did not reflect their exemption for the current tax year. The problem will be rectified in the new bill, city officials had said.

The exemption is available to residents 65 and over by Jan. 1, 2009 who earned less than $30,000 adjusted gross income in 2008. The deadline to register for the exemption was March 1.

The exemption is a flat rate of $5,000 per home, which is deducted off the property valuation only for purposes of calculating municipal taxes. The exemption is not enforceable on county or school property taxes.

Anyone with questions is asked to email City Clerk Betsy Tyler at info@peachtree-city.org or call City Hall at 770-487-7657.
