Peachtree City is receiving a $9,000 homeland security grant that will be used to purchase chemical protective equipment.

The purchase will cover four chemical protective clothing ensembles which are fully encapsulated. The suits will be ready for use by the multi-jurisdictional Hazardous Material Response Team.

The team includes the Peachtree City Fire Department and their counterparts with Fayetteville and Fayette County.

The grant requires no matching funds, rather, it the city will be reimbursed for the full cost of the protective suits. The funds must be spent by Dec. 31.

The funds, coming from the Georgia Emergency Management Agency and the federal Department of Homeland Security, were left over from the 2006 fiscal year.
