Sara Mildred Sams Goza

Sara Mildred Sams Goza, 84, Fayette County, died Sept. 4, 2009. She was born July 4, 1925. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ferrol Aubrey Sams Sr. and Mildred Matthews Sams, her husband, Claude L. Goza Sr., and sisters Janice S. Cole and Jimmie Kate S. Cole. She earned degrees from Mercer University and Georgia State University. She was member of Phi Mu fraternity. She dedicated her life to developing young people serving as a high school girl’s basketball coach, teacher, and a principal in Fayette County. She was a member of the James Waldrop Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Thomas Wingfield Chapter of Colonial Dames XVIIth Century and was also a member of Inman United Methodist Church.

Services were at Inman United Methodist Church with the Rev. Royece Stowe and the Rev. Jennie Andone officiating. Interment was at Woolsey Baptist Church Cemetery. Survivors include sons, Claude “Monty” L. and Dr. Wendy Goza Jr., and Dr. John and Mary Sue Goza; a daughter, Dr. Sara H. Goza; 10 grandchildren; and a brother, Drs. Ferrol A. and Helen Sams Jr. Memorial donations may be made to Inman United Methodist Church or The Joseph Sams School. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge.
