Newnan Police detectives on Aug. 31 issued an arrest warrant for Albert R. Griffin, 36, for the April 19 murder of Antonio Ellis. Griffin is currently in Coweta County Jail on unrelated charges.

Ellis, 33, was shot and killed at his home on Standish Court during the early morning hours of April 19 during an apparent home invasion, according to Newnan Public Information Officer Gina Snider.

Griffin is currently in the Coweta County Jail on unrelated drug charges and was notified of the murder charge against him, Snider said. Detectives working with the Ellis family were able to develop a positive lead in the case. Albert Griffin was identified as a suspect and probable cause was developed implicating Griffin as the shooter, said Snider.

Newnan detectives are continuing the investigation in an effort to obtain additional information in the case. Anyone having information concerning the death of Antonio Ellis are urged to contact Detective Rick Mires or Investigator Reginald Wimbush at the Newnan Police Department at (770) 254-2355.
