The Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater will recognize September 11, Patriot Day, in a unique and entertaining way this year. Contemporary Christian artist Amy Grant will headline an evening of music and praise along with a military honor guard and patriotic salute as part of a 9-11 Tribute. Local teen recording artist Lindee Link will sing the National Anthem and the Southern Nights Chorale will perform “America the Beautiful” as part of the pre-show program. The Amy Grant concert is sponsored by Atlanta’s WVFJ, J 93.3 Open Door, a locally based Christian band will open for Amy Grant . The band currently performs at music festivals such as “Atlanta Fest” and “Celebrate Freedom Atlanta,” community events, and churches. Open Door will play at 8 pm. Amy Grant will take the stage at 9 pm. Many believe that Amy Grant put Contemporary Christian music on the map. She surely did that achieving breakthroughs such as being the first contemporary Christian artist to have a platinum record, the first to hit the #1 pop charts and the first to perform at the Grammys. Yet, perhaps her greatest accomplishment was to open the door for a flood of other artists in pop as well as rock to sing about faith, soul, and family and still grasp stardom. Nearly 30 years ago Grant began embracing fans with a heartfelt singer-songwriter style mixing elements of pop, folk and country. Contemporary Christian music’s first major crossover success, she has to date earned three multiplatinum albums, six other platinum albums and four more gold albums. She has also scored 10 Top 40 pop singles and 17 Top 40 Adult Contemporary tracks as well as a string of Christian chart toppers. In 2005 Amy hosted the NBC prime time series “Three Wishes” which brought her into millions of living rooms across the U.S. each Friday night. In 2006, Amy added a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame to her list of accolades. Grant’s husband/country music star Vince Gil spoke at the September ceremony. Individual tickets and a limited number or picnic and gold tables for the Amy Grant concert are available and may be purchased online at www.amphitheater.org or at The Fred Box Office.
