Medicare needs reform

As Americans debate healthcare issues it is my hope that we do just that, debate the issues. The scare tactics and misinformation serve no one but special interest groups that are vested in the status quo or news organizations and commentators that prefer sensationalism to facts.

Healthcare reform isn’t socialized medicine and will not lead to rationed care. We will still be able to choose our own doctor and health insurance plan. Under healthcare reform, any decisions regarding our health will continue to be made by us, our doctor and our family, not by the government.

We can’t afford not to fix healthcare. If we do nothing now, the cost of healthcare premiums will double in the next seven years.

Healthcare reform will strengthen, not hurt, Medicare. For people in Medicare, reform will protect our benefits, ensure we can choose our doctor and strengthen Medicare so it’s there for our children and grandchildren.

I encourage citizens to get beyond the noise, learn the facts, consider what it means to do nothing and to look at our options.
