Three Fayette churches join hands to offer Alpha classesTue, 08/25/2009 - 3:30pm

Three local churches have teamed up to offer the world-famous Alpha course to members and the general public beginning Sept. 10. All Saints Anglican, Peachtree City United Methodist (PTCUMC), and Providence United Methodist churches will run the free course which is designed to answer basic questions about Christianity. The first Alpha class will be conducted Sept. 10 through Nov. 19 by All Saints at PTCUMC, 400 Windgate Road. It is scheduled for Thursdays from 6:30-8:45 p.m. To register call 770-486-5374 or go online to www.ptcanglican.org. Additional classes begin Sept. 13 at PTCUMC, 225 Robinson Road. Classes will be conducted by PTCUMC and are scheduled for Sundays Sept. 13 -November 22 from 4 - 6 p.m. To register call 770-487-6499 or go online to www.ptcumc.org. Other sessions begin at Providence Methodist, 592 Bernhard Road, on Sept. 13 and 16 through Nov. 22. They will be conducted by Providence and are scheduled for Sundays from 8:30 - 10 a.m. and Wednesdays from 9:30- 11:30 a.m. The Wednesday session is for ladies only; it will end Nov. 18. During ten weekly sessions, including a one day joint session, participants will survey some of the fundamental tenets of Christianity and have the opportunity to take part in discussions and ask questions. Each class begins with a meal or refreshments, followed by a presentation, and small group discussions. Alpha is a non-denominational program that began in the United Kingdom in the late 1970s as a means of presenting the basic principles of the faith to new Christians in a relaxed and informal setting.
