A McDonough sculptor is setting out to honor Peachtree City founders Joel Cowan and Floy Farr.

Andy Davis, who has sculpted the likenesses of Truett Cathy, Margaret Mitchell and others, won the city council’s approval to conduct a private fundraising drive so he can construct busts of the two founders.

Davis said he came up with the idea after reading about the city’s 50th anniversary this year. He said he has undertaken similar fundraising campaigns in the past and has been 100 percent successful.

Davis said he wanted the project to commemorate Cowan and Farr, though he realized many others were involved in the success of Peachtree City, so people in the future can look back and appreciate the city’s roots.

The sculpture is anticipated to be placed in the City Hall plaza once complete.

At the request of Councilwoman Cyndi Plunkett, the city will set up an account to keep track of the funds and have the ability to reimburse donors should the project not meet its funding goals for completion.

The project is expected to cost no more than $25,000.
