Neil Simon's classic comedy “Barefoot in the Park” is set to rock the house with laughter at the Lodge of the Fayette Family YMCA this weekend.

Produced by Fayette Players and Community Theatre with the assistance of the Law Firm of Slepian and Schwartz of Fayetteville and directed by Eileen Baldwin, “Barefoot” is one of Simon's best loved comedies. Set in the early 1960's, the plot centers around a newly wed couple, Paul and Corie Bratter, played by Chris Baldwin and Lauren Weisheit.

“Barefoot in the Park” takes place in the newly wed Bratters' 5th floor walk-up apartment in New York City. It is based on an incident in Simon's young marriage where his wife, Joan, hurled a frozen veal chop at him because words could no longer express the passion of a bitter argument they were having.

Rounding out the cast are Chris Ernst as the Phone Man, Walter Gammell as the Lord & Taylor Delivery Man, Dorothy Ramsdell as Ethel Banks and Terry Hoffman as the irrepressible Victor Velasco.

Performances are set for Friday and Saturday, Feb. 17 and 18 at 7:30 p.m. with a matinee at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19. Performances continue next weekend, Feb. 23, 24 and 25 at 7:30 p.m..

Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. Groups of 10 or more benefit from a $2 discount. Tickets can be purchased by phone at 404-822-9050 or at the Fayette Family YMCA office.

This is the first of two Neil Simon comedies to be staged by Fayette Players & Community Theatre this season with “The Odd Couple” scheduled for performances in late April. The Fayette Family YMCA is located at 215 Huiet Road in Fayetteville.
