Tiny slice needed for sign relocation

So the entry sign at Falcon Field can be relocated, Peachtree City officials have deeded a tiny strip of land on Falcon Drive to the city’s airport authority.

The sign relocation is necessary to make room for the Falcon Field Veterans Memorial Park, which will feature a mounted F-16 Fighting Falcon jet in a landscaped park with brick pavers commemorating active and retired veterans and their families.

The City Council last week approved transferring ownership of the .016-acre island in front of the airport’s parking lot to the airport authority.

The memorial park will be dramatically lit at night and organizers hope for it to become a central gathering place. It will include a monument with information on the F-16’s role in wartime.

The F-16 was donated to the city 10 years ago and has sat dormant until recent months when the plan for the veterans’ memorial began to stir.
