More than 150 local and state government officials, real estate professionals and home owners attending the ground breaking for Killearn's new Eagle's Brooke Golf and Country Club heard Henry County Commission Chairman Jason Harper say that the community was on track to become one of the top features in the recreational and residential life of Henry County.

"J.T. Williams (Killearn's chairman and CEO) came to Henry County with a vision," Harper said. "His development at Eagle's Landing has become one of the county's crown jewels. Eagle's Brooke is an expansion of that vision. It will be another gem for Henry County to be proud of."

State Sen. Terrell Starr, who represents the 44th senatorial district, which covers parts of Clayton and Henry counties, called Williams' and Killearn's work at Eagle's Brooke and elsewhere "an example of what quality growth can be."

Founded in 1964, Killearn is a developer of quality golf course communities including, in addition to Eagle's Landing and Eagle's Brooke in Henry County, Waterfall at Lake Burton, Kingwood in Rabun County and Killearn Estates in Tallahassee, Fla. Thirty-six PGA and LPGA tournaments have been played on golf courses in Killearn communities.

The Eagle's Brooke course is being designed and shaped by Scott Pool, who Williams described as "the best golf course designer I have ever worked with." A protégé of legendary golf course architect Pete Dye, Pool designed the course at Kingwood Country Club and Resort in Clayton and spent two years living on site to design and shape the 18 holes at Waterfall on Lake Burton, selected by Georgia Golf magazine as one of the five "Best of the Best" private courses in Georgia, along with Augusta National and Ocean Forest Club on Sea Island.

The present plan calls for the course to be approximately 7,000 yards long with four par five holes, 10 par fours and four par threes. It will feature numerous wooden bridges and walkways.

Eagle's Brooke Golf and Country Club is a semi-private club being developed as part of the total Killearn Eagle's Brooke community in Locust Grove in Henry County. On schedule to be built out in 2008 to 2009, the 1,200-acre master-planned community will ultimately have approximately 600 upscale homes priced from the $300,000s to over $1 million. In addition to the Golf and Country Club facilities currently under construction, Eagle's Brooke residents enjoy a wide range of other amenities including pedestrian-friendly sidewalks on both sides of the streets, streetlights, underground utilities, matching designer mailboxes at each residence, play areas, and the security of a private, gated neighborhood. Approximately 170 homes have been sold to date.

The 49-home site Phase Six of Eagle's Brooke will be developed concurrently with the Golf and Country Club and there will be some locations available along the course.

Of the 29 home sites in the present phase, 11 home sites and six spec homes are available.

During the period while the construction of the Eagle's Brooke Golf and Country Club is underway, a variety of membership packages are available to Eagle's Brooke home owners as well as to the public, including a limited number of Founding Memberships and Charter Memberships. Special membership packages - including substantial initiation fee discounts and membership privileges at other clubs at Killearn communities - are tailored specifically for Eagle's Brooke homeowners, and over 30 homeowners signed up for memberships during the groundbreaking event.

In addition to the 18-hole championship golf course, club facilities include a driving range and practice putting green, a restaurant and lounge, banquet services for weddings and special events, a fitness center including a weight room, men's and women's locker rooms, tennis courts and a swimming pool.

Killearn founder, CEO and Chairman J.T. Williams is a longtime civic activist who is currently a member of the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority. He previously served as chairman of finance of the Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District governing board, chairman of the Georgia State Board of Education and chairman of the Atlanta Regional Business Coalition. He is also former chairman of the Henry County Chamber of Commerce. He was the recipient of the Herman Talmadge Visionary Award, presented by the Henry County Chamber of Commerce to recognize the person who has contributed the most to positive growth and economic development in Henry County.

During the groundbreaking ceremonies, Williams lauded Henry County government officials for establishing a cooperative working environment for business. "We don't receive many variances," he quipped, "but (the Henry County Commission) has been tremendously helpful in helping us understand how to meet your regulations. If you don't have a cooperative local government, you can't be successful in our industry."

Eagle's Brooke is located off Bill Gardner Parkway a short drive from Exit 212 of I-75.
