2 more Red Cross blood donation drives set this weekTue, 08/11/2009 - 3:59pm
By: John Munford
As the American Red Cross has issued an urgent call for blood donors in metro Atlanta, two more blood drives will be hosted in Fayette County. New Hope Baptist Church in Fayetteville will host a blood drive today (Wednesday) from 2-7 p.m. at its campus at 551 New Hope Road. The Red Cross bloodmobile will be here Thursday from noon to 5 p.m. in the parking lot of the 1279 building of Piedmont Fayette Hospital. The 1279 building is located on the western side of the hospital campus directly off Ga. Highway 54. Donors of all blood types are welcome, but there is an urgent need for type O negative, B negative and A negative blood donors. Giving blood is simple and convenient, you must be healthy, at least 17 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds. You must not have donated whole blood in the last 56 days. Donating blood helps to save more than 5 million people in need of blood transfusions each year in the United States, according to the American Red Cross. Blood is needed every two seconds in the United States for emergency medical situations. It is always needed for the treatment of accident victims, cancer patients, hemophiliacs and surgery patients. For more information or to schedule an appointment at Thursday’s blood drive at the hospital, call the auxiliary office at 770-719-7098. Appointments may also be made for Wednesday’s drive at New Hope by calling 1—800-GIVE-LIFE or visiting www.redcrossblood.org. Walk-ins are welcome; however appointments will be honored first. login to post comments |
