Friday’s games - Boys - AAAAA

• Starr’s Mill (13-15) vs. Beach (22-5), 7 p.m.
The Panthers will need to channel the spirit that helped them advance to the region 4-AAAAA championship if they are to win this game. During their impressive run in the tournament, the Panthers made key free throws and remained patient on offense, while also playing extremely well on the boards.

The winner of this game will take on the winner of Tri-Cities and Lowndes in Macon on Feb. 23.

• Fayette County (24-2) @ Savannah (19-8), 6 p.m.
The Tigers must avoid a sluggish start and can’t let up on the Blue Jackets, who have come back from large margins to win games this year. Fayette County needs to get their offense, both the inside game and the perimeter shooting, going strong if they are to win this game.
The winner of this game will take on the winner of Houston County and Lithonia on Feb. 23 in Macon.

Boys - AAAA

• Sandy Creek (12-16) @ Griffin (17-9), 7 p.m.
The Patriots need everyone to have a hot hand tonight and their defense must force Griffin mistakes that they can capitalize on. It will also likely be important to draw fouls and make free throws, slowing down any momentum that the Bears might create.

The winner of this game will meet the winner of Ware County and Baldwin on Feb. 24 at Columbus State University.

Saturday’s games - Girls - AAAAA

• Starr’s Mill (16-12) @ Beach (25-2), 7 p.m.
When the Lady Panthers win games, it is often because they play well defensively, slow the game down and make a lot of big shots. That is the formula for success against a team like Beach, which can generate a lot of offense and blow teams away.

The winner of this game will meet the winner of Lowndes and Redan in Macon on Feb. 24.

Girls - AAAA

• Sandy Creek (22-5) vs. Warner Robins (24-4), 6 p.m.

While one person has been the leading scorer for the Lady Patriots in nearly every game, a team effort is what got them to this point and will help them advance further. There can be few mistakes made and very short scoring droughts, if any, if they are to advance.

The winner will take on the winner of Jones County and Lee County at Columbus State University on Feb. 23.

Girls - A

• Landmark Christian (20-6) vs. Trion, (8-15), 6 p.m.

Similar to Sandy Creek, the Lady War Eagles have a star player that has led them in scoring in nearly all of their games, but the rest of the team must continue to play their ‘A’ game, running the offense well enough to keep the game at their pace, and grabbing rebounds on both sides of the court to keep the ball out of Trion’s hands.

The winner will meet the winner of the Jefferson, Aquinas game at Georgia Highlands College on Feb. 23.
