S74 annex proposal to be discussed A proposal to annex 18 acres off Ga. Highway 74 south near Redwine Road will be discussed at Monday night’s meeting of the Peachtree City Planning Commission. Southern Pines Plantation wants the annexation so it can provide sewer service to a shopping center located just outside the city limits. SPP is proposing to donate 14 of the 18 acres for a future expansion of the Meade Field recreation complex which the shopping center will be adjacent to. The remaining acreage would be a commercially-zoned parcel inside the city limits that is contiguous to the remainder of the 80 acres set aside for the shopping center. In 2000, SPP won a rezoning from Fayette County to allow retail and commercial uses on 21.8 of those acres and office-institutional uses on 5.79 acres. If the annexation is approved, the sewer constructed for the area could also be designed to serve the nearby county animal shelter, an office complex currently in the city limits and several other properties that are currently outside the city limits along Redwine Road. The city’s Water and Sewer Authority has worked for some time on a proposal between several property owners including SPP to chip in towards the installation of a new sewer line to serve the area. The matter will be discussed in a workshop format so the commission will not vote on the project. Also on tap for Monday night’s commission meeting is a rezoning for a nine-acre tract in the Kedron Hills area that is currently zoned for estate residential development. Piedmont Homes is currently allowed a total of six lots but wants a rezoning to R-43 residential to allow a total of 13 lots. The commission is also expected to consider a proposal to add lights to the multipurpose practice field at McIntosh High School. The commission meeting is 7 p.m. Monday at City Hall. login to post comments |
