Months of weekend traffic jams and long delays along I-85 may well be coming to an end sometime near Christmas, but the dreams of smooth flowing traffic will continue to be just dreams for the near-term. This weekend included.

The Georgia Department of Transportation advises motorists again this weekend to be aware of delays. In an Oct. 19 statement, DOT advised that the I-85 northbound ramp to I-285 northbound and eastbound will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday. Weather permitting, construction crews will complete the roadway reconstruction in that area. DOT suggests that motorists use Exit 69, Old National Highway, to access I-285 eastbound and the downtown connector and I-20 to reach the westside of I-285.

Things also stay interesting a bit further south along I-85. Two right lanes northbound will be closed from Flat Shoals Road to I-285 beginning Friday at 9 p.m. until Monday at 5 a.m. On Friday and Saturday from 10 p.m. until 4 a.m. each night crews will close two right on I-85 northbound at Ga. Highway 138. Other closures Saturday include one right lane northbound from Ga. Highway 74 to just south of Hwy. 74 from 5 a.m. until 7 p.m. and two left lanes southbound from Hwy. 138 to Hwy. 74 from 5 a.m. until 7 p.m. And on Sunday from 56 a.m. until 7 p.m. construction work will close one lane northbound and southbound at Hwy. 138.

DOT suggests that motorists access construction information 24 hours daily at (404) 635-6800 or by calling *DOT or #DOT on a cellular phone or by visiting the DOT NaviGAtor website at www.georgia-navigator.com
