Last week I read a letter from a candidate announcing he was going to run against Greg Dunn in the July primary County Commission election. I am writing because the candidate describes Mr. Dunn in a manner which I have never observed. I have known Greg Dunn for 15 years, have had the opportunity to consistently evaluate this man, and want to share some insights with you. There is only one reason he is involved with local politics. He believes he can help make Fayette County a better place to live, and you know what, he has. Mr. Dunn is one of the most honest, ethical persons you will ever know in public life. His character, intelligence, and honesty are refreshing. Greg may not be the best politician in the world because he simply does the hard work. He does not toot his own horn and often is not recognized for his many accomplishments and positives he has helped implement in Fayette County. For example, several years ago he led the charge to keep the Williams Company power plant from being built and polluting the entire county. Very few people understand the coalition of forces he orchestrated to defeat a project that would have greatly affected our quality of life. Mr. Dunn has been recognized by Governor Sonny Purdue as a rising star in the Republican Party. Six months ago the governor asked Greg to escort President Bush to a seniors’ conference in Atlanta. Mr. Dunn is also a member of the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) and is chairman of the Transportation Committee. He has been a tremendous force in improving the flow of funds for road improvements to Fayette County. I encourage all of you to get to know or meet with him. Greg Dunn is the type of leader we truly need to keep in office. William T. Nigro |
