There is little doubt today that the myriad issues facing humanity, regardless the country or continent, have a way of impacting the lives of countless others. Whether regional or worldwide energy consumption, human trafficking and pandemics, the transformation of global communications infrastructure or politics, terrorism and debt, these are but a few of the forum topics and news reports found at a new website established by Peachtree City resident Lucio Petroccione. Through its diverse range of offerings, nxwrld.com (NextWorld) is a social network for global action launched June 1 that promotes solutions to concerns through the efforts of ordinary people.

A management consultant and music composer with a background in the airline and energy industries, Petroccione said the grassroots idea behind the creation of NextWorld came as many ideas do, out of the blue. It came one day as he sat at his kitchen table.

Petroccione said one of the ideas behind the website was to extend to its participants a similar opportunity that he brings to his business clients, the suggestion of implementing a proactive stance that evolves into a positive future built on open dialogue. That evolution of ideas from a community of participants with diverse perspectives then works to facilitate further dialogue and generate results.

“Bringing people together is a beautiful thing. From it you create your future, your future story,” Petroccione explained. “I’m excited about NextWorld. I want it to be a tool and an application for people to communicate together and help each other and take ownership and evolve it.”

At its fundamentals, knowledge is a tool, and it only follows that an increase in the knowledge of a given topic can lead to an increased understanding of it. And at its fundamentals, an open, two-way, thoughtful communication between people can serve as a bridge to expand knowledge, both experientially and intuitively.

The idea behind NextWorld is that users can start a dialogue and provide insights by creating new forums and ideas. They can connect, interact and network on a variety of topics with friends or strangers to address the topics, help drive the discussion by discovering unique news content found on the website and vote on key topics and ideas that other users submit, Petroccione said.

Current topics of concern for voting include economic security, pandemics, water supply, community, energy diversity, environment, war and conflict and ending hunger. But those are merely the beginning of a trip through a wide range of news stories, charts and graphs and discussions that are found in sub-categories that accompany world maps within those topic areas. Users are encouraged to participate in discussion forums or initiate their own forum topic.

The website’s current content areas are provided as a medium for those interested to consider other possibilities. The conversations that result, from interested people across cities, nations and continents, make issues such as debt or safe drinking water, for example, the type of topics that take on a global scope.

“We all have great ideas, so I wanted to provide a way to facilitate those ideas. People can rank and vote on the topics that come from those ideas,” said Petroccione. “The premise is to bring people together to talk about issues and get different perspectives. The more people, the more information and the better the decisions.”

Petroccione extends his confidence in having issues addressed and problems solved, not so much to the experts in various fields of endeavor, but in the considerations of regular people, the people on the ground that are counted among the mass population.

“Change comes from ordinary people,” he said smiling. “This website is meant to facilitate that.”

As for future participation on the website, Petroccione said he eventually wants the community to run it and determine the content. I am curious to see how it evolves, he said.
