The Fayetteville City Council at the July 16 meeting adopted a $10.057 million general fund budget for Fiscal Year 2010 that represents a 2.67 percent decrease over the current year. The new budget will take effect Aug. 1.

Now adopted, the new budget since its proposal by Finance Director Lynn Robinson had included no increases in tax rates, permit fees, license fees, water and sewer rates or any user fees. The new budget also contains no new personnel and continues the hiring freeze that has been in effect since January 2008.

The budget’s passage also came with a recommendation from Robinson that the current 2.988 millage rate be maintained.

Also adopted at the July 16 meeting was an amendment to a section of the occupational tax ordinance that pertains to fines stemming from the failure to pay fees in a timely manner. Mirroring recent changes in state law, the council lowered the amount of the fine for non-payment from $1,000 to $500.
